You dont have to reach your expiration date before you can experience a piece of heaven. Picture yourself sipping on an ice cold Pina Colada on a white sandy beach, before you commit to the same old annual camping trip. Plettenberg Bay is located in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Once known as Bahia Formosa (beautiful bay) named by Portuguese travellers, it lives up to its name truly heaven on earth!
Where to go:
This is well known as the local hangout where tall tales are shared, friendships are born and glasses are clinked to the one that got away. Catering for the young but also the young at heart. Wednesday nights are their busiest night of the week. The restaurant turns into a viby pub with good grub (Mexican cuisine deluxe) while you are being entertained by the musically gifted at open mic.
Who doesnt want to let loose, put on their party shoes and blow of some steam in South Africas largest club? Every year around the Christmas holidays thousands of school leavers make their way to this small town. They come to have a good time and celebrate a new chapter in their lives. The Main Stage never fails to deliver with the likes of Goldfish, The Kiffness, Jack Parrow and DJ Fresh, just to name a few of SAs hottest talent who will keep you entertained.
Emily Moon River Lodge
When you feel like fleeing from the madness or merely want to woo your partner, Emily Moon River Lodge will not disappoint. Overlooking the peaceful Bitou River; the veranda is surrounded by an indigenous garden where you can sit and enjoy a drink under the African skies. The staff will treat you like royalty with lip-smacking dishes and sociable service. The rooms are fit for a king and very inviting after a long days kayaking down the scenic river.
Plettenberg Bay offers a variety of things to do and see. Those with an obsessive desire for excitement and adventure might consider bungee jumping the Bloukrans Bridge: a staggering height of 216 meters (709 ft.) making it the highest commercial bridge bungee in the world!
If you prefer to experience nature in its glory, the Robberg trail comes highly recommended. But be warned, this is not your classic walk your dog type of walk, it can be very tiring (especially for the sofa spud). The scenic path does however help to divert your thoughts.
When hunger strikes, I recommend the following:
hospitality staffing services
Surf Caf Nachos seems to be the dish everyone is raving about as well as their Pina Coladas (coconut cocktail). Off the Hook Restaurant Calamari (squid) Burger. The Ice Cream Shop Gelato, try them all! The Deli This place have a variety of freshly baked muffins if you are feeling peckish. LM Mozambique prawns (the best in town).
This town is absolutely beautiful with so much to offer. If you are an animal fanatic like me, youll be thrilled to know that their beaches are pet friendly too. So when you do find yourself in the future traveling through South Africa, be sure to tick Plettenberg Bay off your list before your return.
